Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Nimitz - Bridge - TAC/SC Ensign Kateb - 1103) Onyx returned to the bridge, thinking and planing how she would get this operative off the Alamo. It came to her mind that a program of scan link to transporter would be the ideal way of saving this individual she had to save. She lift her head enough to see a relieved Ensign Harrison. “Ensign Harrison... anything new?” (Reply from Harrison) “I don't know if I like this quiet... I know that are engineers are working to repair the damages of the attacks but the Alamo is also doing that.” (Reply from Harrison, anyone) (Posted by Laurence) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Nimitz - Bridge - COUNS Ensign John Harrison - 1104) Harrison felt a wave of relief as Ensign Kateb returned to the bridge. The Alamo was still maintaining his course, but at least Kateb would be able to monitor its status. "Ensign Harrison... anything new?" "No," he replied, suspicion in his voice, "Their mirroring our course and waiting." "I don't know if I like this quiet... I know that are engineers are working to repair the damages of the attacks but the Alamo is also doing that." "Is there anyway you can scan how well their repairs are going?" he asked, "I think we can assume that from, say, 75% efficiency, Le Bleu will start taking a few risks. He's coming after us." He just could not believe it. Now it was his turn to be frustrated with the other ship. Even more frustration witht he knowledge that if he were LABeau, this would be his big chance. Why didn't they just send him an invitation. So the news of the Alamo changing their flight plan did not catch him by surprise. Watching the tactical display, Sash kept waiting for the ship to go to cloak. Surely they've repaired it by now. If he understood LaBeau, he had a general idea of what he was about to do. If that was the case he had a surprise up his sleave too. What Sash had also come to the conclusion on was that LaBeau was completely insane. He must know by now that there would be no way that he could beat the Nimitz, unless he went on a suicide run. To put so many lives in danger. It was clear that LaBeau was not looking to come out of this alive. The question for Sash was, how bad was he going to let it get. There was little option left. Now the big question was, what was LaBeaus next move. If he were working under the obvious assumption that the man knew he couldn't go toe to toe with the Nimitz then there would only be one logical way to stop him from getting the shipment. Something popped into his head. It was something he had read about LaBeau from his file. Quickly he turned to his command console. "Computer, displayfile of Captain Henre LaBeau, authorization Sash Alpha Epsilon Pi. It took him a moment to find what he was looking for. Of course. He should have realized what he was going to do. ~I hope Zzt's improvements still work.~ "Mr. Asoru, plot an intercept course for the Alamo. Put us between the Alamo and the Archimedes. Onyx, bring all weapons on line. Looks like we're going to have to do a little hunting." (reply any) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Nimitz- Bridge- CO- Captain Devan Sash - 1111) Knowing where your enemy is going to strike is important. But knowing when he is going to strike is just as important. Sash was pretty sure that LaBeau was going to come from underneath. Usually it's where a ship is weakest, and where there's the least visibility. But now they were prepared. Shields were stronger and sensors were realigned. But since the Alamo went to cloak the tension on the bridge was palpable. He could almost smell it. He had almost forgotten that most of this crew had never seen battle before. "They're heading straight for us," Harrison said. His voice carried the tension. "Take it easy Ensign," Sash replied. He cgot up from his seat and made his way behind the counselor. Harrison moved, as if he were getting up from the post. Sash gently held him in place with a hand on the shoulder. He leaned over him and pointed to a read out. "I want you to watch this number," Sash told him. He tapped a command into the console. "It will be searching for the shield modulation of the Alamo. When it flashes red, let me know. It means we have their shield frequency for just a moment. LaBeau will know almost immediately, so you must tell us the instant you have it." (reply Harrison) "Ensign Kateb, be ready for the counselors report." (reply Kateb) "Ship decloaking directly under us," came a report. "Brace for impact!" Sash called out. Suddenly, nothing happened. "Onyx?" Sash asked. (reply Kateb) "Thank you Lt. Dumas," Sash said under his breath. "Fire phasers." He watched as the Alamo shook from the phaser blasts. It listed slightly then realigned. "Quantum torpedoes, now!" he ordered. The Alamo moved and managed to dodge the torpedoes. it turned and renewed it's attack. Full phasers and flurry of torpedoes exploded on the shields. The shields held. Thankfully. "Return fire," Sash yelled. "Launch torpedoes four at a time. " ~Come on you bastard. You can dodge all you want, but I'm going to get you. I know what you're going to do. Just do it damn you.~ The phasers hit the Alamos shields as two torpedoes hit their shielding. "Captain, the Alamo's cloak is disabled." "Excellent," Sash replied. Now the line had been drawn. LaBeau had lost his one advantage. He had two options. The wquestion was, which one would he take. "Mr. Captain, the Alamo has gone to cloak." Harrison scanned the OPS console and found that he could still track their movements. "Shields up," Sash ordered. "I want the shielding on the under side shored up. Prepare full phasers and fire at my mark." "They're heading straight for us," Harrison said unnecessarily. The Captain obviously knew what was going on. Truth was, since the Alamo had turned towards them, he had been gripped by confusion and worry again. He was a counsellor, untrained for the rules of battle. Essentially, he was there to pick up the pieces and assess the situation. But this situation didn't need assessing, and if he wasn't careful, it would be his pieces that would need picking up. He tried not to look around the bridge, with all his crewmates going about the duties, calmly, expertly. He focused on the panel. The number was still flashing, changing randomly. He wondered how long this would take, but at least he had something to focus on. One of her nurses came up behind her, helping her up, and she took her hand. "You take a break, Miss Michaella." She spoke, very kindly. Michaella laid her head down on her arms and began to weep. Finally, letting it all out. John, oh god, John, and the loss of her baby. And her daughters didn't know..Beth... Beth would be devastated. Michaella didn't want to think of the reactions of her daughters. Beth probably already knew, but wouldn't take it well. Michaella got up and went over to the glass again, feeling calm again, feeling as if the calm had come from outside of her. She logically surveyed her sickbay, seeing her staff moving efficiently and effectively treating the injured. She turned away from the window, sitting back down at her desk, feeling the grief of John hitting her again. This time the calm could not dispel it and she sank into a greater depression than she had on Geneva. She pulled her knees up so that she could wrap her arms around them and place her chiin on top of them, as the tears slowly leaked out of her eyes, rolling down her cheeks in large teardrops, falling from her cheek onto the table with a splash. She sniffled, thinking of the things that she had wanted to do with him, all the things they wouldn't be able to do. How he wouldn't be there the day that the girls got into the Academy, or when they graduated.... She sniffled again, thinking of the life she wanted to have on betazed with him, raising their son, of the house that she had there but had never used. She felt so alone, and that loneliness and despair began to leak past her shields and out into the rest of the ship, infecting even the non-empathic. She snuffled again, feeling the loss of her Imzadi so very raw inside of her. He'd just been snuffed out, the bond torn away, and that part of her heart ached so badly with the need for him. ~How am I going to live without him?~ She wondered, probing the aching spot every few seconds to make sure it still hurt. If it still hurt she was still alive. She gave into the darkness that had been overwhelming her senses and passed out from the raw emotional pain of the loss of her Imzadi. Starfleet be damned, and duty too. At that moment she didn't care if the Nimitz was destroyed. All she wanted was John back. The only place she could think of that fit the perimeters would be on the bridge. There was no immediate crisis for Janet to respond anywhere else on the ship due to all sections reported no new injuries and sickbay was in no need of her presence for the moment. Janet stood by on the bridge when she heard one the bridge crewman call out. "Captain, something's happening with the Alamo. They are beginning to change their flight path." The blood was flowiing through Janet's heart beating at an unbelieveable rate beyond control. Janet look around the bridge to see the excitement and then heard Captain Sash shout his orders throughout the ship via his comm panel on his chair. "All hands to battle stations!" Sash ordered. Janet rushed to the medical console station to monitor the injury reports and be able to dispatch medical teams, if needed. (Reply anyone) (Posted by Nathan M. (Reply from anyone) (Posted by Laurence) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Nimitz - Bridge - CO- Captain Devan Sash- 11:55) There was nothing they could but travel at the best speed the trawler could put out outside of warp speed. It had been a long and agonizing hour, but there was no way of altering the parameters of the diagnosstic while it was running. They came designed that way. He sat drumming his fingers into his seat arm, watching as the Alamo shadowed their every move. he knew that each second was time that they were putting their ship back together. Frotunately, Zzt had done many miraculous things of his own over the past hour, and the Nimitz was almost back to full power. LaBeau must know this, and know also that his ship was no match for the Nimtz, fully prepared for battle. He had been lucky last time. Of course, then again, so had Sash. Then again, it wasn't the first time that Devan Sash owed his life to Lady Luck. (Angosian Lunar Penal Colony- Division Commander Devan Sash- Stardate: 2386.04.17- 1627) It had been a long and drawn out battle, as these battles had tended to be. The Angosia Primes had given them little other choice than to dig in and create a series of trenches. They had been held to a stand still once before. But that had only lasted two days. This had been 6 days. The Penal Colonists (PC's they had called themselves) were still strong and knew the stratagy they were using well. however, the Primes were starting to wear thin, and Sash wondered how long before they stopped the charade and dropped something big an ugly on them, like a nuclear device or even some biological agent. Of course, he wasn't sure that they had developed a biological agent that would affect the PC's enhanced immune system. The Primes had done a great job in creating their perfect soldiers. They were just ill-prepared with what to do with them after they had served their purpose. All they really wanted was to be left to live in peace. Peac! Sash spat, what peace could he have now. His wife and babies dead. One son that was never found. It was too much. No, better that he die now, in battle, than live the tormented, lonely life that lay ahead of him. he had waited enough. "I'm through waiting for the other bomb to drop," Sash said. "It's time for a frontal assualt." "Are you mad?" came a reply from Dyson. "That's suicide." "So's waiting here,"Sash insisted. "I know they're planning something horrible. They can't let us be here forever. No, if I'm going to die, I'm going out in battle, not hiding in a hole like a freightened rabbit. Who's with me?" There was a roar of agreement from the troops. Dyson walked off saying to himself, "I like the rabbit." But in the end he joined his friend for one last run at the enemy. They lined themselves along the trenches, waiting for their opportunty. Sash had arranged for a barrage of photonic grenades to be launched, moments before their attack would begin. "Eye covers on!" Sash yelled over the sound of the explossions. He put onhis own polarized lenses, shading his eyes from the burst of light from the grenades. "Get ready!" He could still make out the flashes, but at least he could still see afterwards. unfortunately he could still hear aswell. He could hear the screaming of those less prepared, screaming in pain, and at the sudden loss of their sight. Hopefully they won't be alive to regain their sight. Which they probably wouldn't anyway. There was a momentary pause in the explosions when Sash called for the charge. They all scrambled out of the trench and began to advance quickly over the war torn battle ground. The Angossian to Sash's right tripped over something. There was an explossion as Sash realized it was a land mine. Simple yet effective. Sash only took a moment to notw who it was that just died. He put back the horror into a little box in his mind and kept going. Suddenly there was disrupter fire all around him. They must have known they were coming. But they also appeared to be firing blind. Items around him began to exploded or disintegrate as they were hit by weapons fire. There was a lone tree that somehow had managed to survive the battle thus far. Sash had used it as an example to the others of the power of survival under even the most adverse conditions. As he looked he saw the tree get engulfed by flame. Apparently the Primes had brought some old fashioned flamers with them. He dove to the ground and began to crawl forward, nearly at their goal. He took a quick scan to see that they had only lost two others. That was lucky. He snorted thinking how cynical that sounded. It was lucky that only three people, three of his friends died. He shook it off and went on. Momnents later they crossed the Prime's defense primeter. There was little thought here. It wa all instinct. Fire and evade. Fire and evade. When the smoke cleared there was little else to tell other than genetic enhancement and instinct outweighed all else, except for, maybe, a lot of luck. Sash checked his scanner to find his entire team had made the crossing and survived the melee, with the exception of the of Jase, who he lost on the mine, and Dyson. Yeah, he had been lucky enough to only lose his wife, his children and now his best friend. He was real lucky. (USS Nimitz - Bridge - CO- Captain Devan Sash- 12:02) Sash rubbed his forehead and brought himself back to the real world. He had gotten tired of watching the Alamo shadow them. He knew the stratagy. LaBeau wanted to rattle Sash's cage, and see what mistakes would crop up. Sash just let it go and kept a mindful watch on the progress of the defiant class ship. At least he was certain that the cloak was still not functioning. Otherwise, he was sure that LaBeau would have used that advantage already. The trick to this game was to get as much done as possible to the ship, in repairs, before LaBeau decides to have another go at them. Sash felt pretty confident that Zzt had them ready. Suddenly a voice called over to him. "Capain, something's happening with the Alamo. They are beginning to change their flight path." This was it. Sash had given LaBeau the opportunity to back off, but he knew already the man wouldn't. He was planning to go down with his ship, and most likely take as many with him as possible. ~All for the cause.~ Sash thought sarcastically. "All hands to battle stations," Sash ordered. "Shields to maximum. Enseign Kateb, get ready. Our window of opportunity will be short lived." (reply Kateb, anyone) (posted by Al Muir)
